UPDATING WEATHER CHANNEL FORECAST
Obtain Weather Forecast
● Open Web Browser (i.e. Google) on News PC in studio
● Click ‘Akron Weather’ folder in toolbar
● Select ‘TWC Forecasts’ (for Akron stations: WQMX_Daypart Idenifierst_1 and for Cleveland station: WNWV_Daypart Identifier_Time_fcst_1)
● Click [Log in] in the authentication required box (user name and password are stored)
● Locate current forecast–>Right click on Download It then ‘Save Link As’
● Save file to desktop
● Close web browser
Upload File to NewsRoom 4.5 & WideOrbit
● Launch NR 4.5 from News PC
● In the ‘logon to Newsroom 4.5 Server’ pop-box, type station/newsroom specific password into the password field then click [logon] button (i.e. User Name: wqmx Password: wqmx)
● Click ‘Audio Edit’ icon in tool bar—>the audio editor will open
● Select ‘File’ from toolbar then ‘Import From File’
● Search for and select file (saved earlier on desktop) then click [open] button
● Audio will display in audio editor
● In Audio Editor, edit and adjust level:
To edit:
1. Click magnifying glass with (+) sign in it to zoom in on file to view beginning of audio
2. Click inside audio editor
3. Set begin and end points using the green squares (left is set in point and right is set out point) to trim the beginning to tighten for airing
4. When begin and end points are set, a yellow box will appear
5. Hit [delete] button on the keyboard to remove
6. Repeats steps 3 thru 5 for the end of the weather
To adjust audio level:
1. Click inside the audio editor
2. On keyboard, press [Ctrl] and [A] at the same time to ‘select all’ (this will highlight the audio
3. Right click anywhere in the highlighted area–>select ‘adjust level’
4. The default level is 6Dbs. To increase, click just above the bar in level adjuster to 8 Dbs
5. Playback audio (note: you may need to repeat step 4 to obtain desired level). If listening in theon-air studio, place the News pot in cue.
6. Once you have levels where you want them, click [OK] button
To save file:
● In Automation (WideOrbit) for use by stations on air:
1. Select ‘file’ from toolbar–>then ‘All’–>Select ‘Save to Automation’
2. In Save Audio pop-up, locate ‘Weather‘ (for all Akron stations) or ‘WNWVNewsTrafficWeather’ (for Cleveland station) and click to highlight
3. Name Audio (i.e. 6AM WX Danielle Banks) and click [SAVE] button
4. In the ‘File to Automation’ pop-up box, enter 1130 (same for Akron and Cleveland stations) in the Cart ID field
5. Click [OK]–>Message box appears showing audio clip has been saved
6. Click [OK] to exit
7. Close out of NewsRoom 4.5
